The first is block work or brickwork and will require the full plastering treatment of a base coat than a skim finish. Plastering is a highly skilled trade that requires both speed and accuracy.
There are two types of walling likely to require the attention of the plasterer.
The first coat, called the floating coat, is applied skim using a hawk and trowel to a depth of 10mm and 13 mm over the wall. A straight edge will then be used to provide a level and even surface before a special tool plasterers will be dragged over the surface of the plaster to provide a key for the finishing coat. Any stud partition walls constructed from plasterboard and finished with a taped joint of a plaster skim finish will not require the length of drying out other walls require and can be decorated within days of completion.
